As leading specialist providers of bet management and screen display systems, it was no surprise to see A Bet A’s stand busy throughout the day. Among several innovations the one they were keenest to promote was The Punter’s Jackpot, a new Superfecta pool bet using virtual racing, resulting from A Bet A’s link-up with South African-based company Kiron Interactive.

To be launched in December with an estimated £15,000 jackpot, The Punter’s Jackpot will be available in LBOs every 15 minutes throughout the trading day and will provide risk-free revenues to betting shop operators’ bottom lines.

It’s an opportunity for customers to win large jackpots for small stakes. They place a £1 bet predicting the first four horses home in correct order in 14-runner races on Kiron’s Dashing Derby virtual racing. Jackpots are rolled over if not won.

Initially, it’s available to all operators utilising A Bet A’s bet management system, though there are plans to facilitate integration into other supplier’s betting platforms. The set-up costs are minimal and LBOs will receive generous commission on each bet. Delivery is streamed via a broadband connection. Commentary is via a Smart TV at a volume configured to suit individual premises. Odds are displayed on the split screen beside races and on the tills.

Julie Craig, business development manager at betting.co.uk was on hand to offer further explanation.

“The idea is to launch something that’s really easy to do with no upfront costs, with minimal operating costs, and with which the operators can hopefully see some good profit coming in from the bets they take.

“It’s all about bringing in a product that works for the independent market and allows them to make more money, because we all know the challenge that they face through rising costs and everything else that they have to deal with.

“This is a product for the independents to give them something to set them apart. We’re looking to promote them as well – we’ll be running a website that directs people to their shops to place the bet.

“The suppliers and the bookmakers are all in this together – if there are no bookmakers, there’s no point in having a supplier.

“All the bookmakers need is a HD TV, suggested minimum 42-inch: ideally a Smart TV. We operate everything online. The data is integrated with A Bet A’s till system and all bets are placed through that, either by scanning a mark sense coupon or by call-over.”

In addition to The Punter’s Jackpot race every 15 minutes, a stream of virtual races will run every five minutes. There will be full fixed odds betting on all the virtual races in addition to The Punter’s Jackpot Superfecta pool bet, so bookmakers will also be able to use them as a virtual product as well.

Each new jackpot will start at a minimum of £1,000 and is expected to reach in the region of £15,000. Those customers who miss out on the Jackpot but predict the first three past the post will have a free bet on the next pool game.

Added Julie: “We hope to look at expanding the bet once it is established but we wanted to launch it with something simple that will capture the punter’s imagination.”
